The Snow is Melting!

Our temperatures are soaring! The last few days have reached as high as 44 degrees. We are putting up our cold gear and getting out our lighter weight stuff. It feels great! The snow is turning to slush in some areas during the day, and Audrey was thrilled to find mud puddles. We were walking down the road a few days ago and she was dancing in the puddles. I told her to stop, and she told me, "But Mom! I haven't seen mud in like a year!" It hasn't been a year, but I have to admit that seeing brown mud after nothing but white snow for 6 months is pretty exciting.

On a sadder note, our dog, Tuffy, has disappeared. He was last seen late Wednesday night. Somehow his chain came undone and he went off for an adventure. This has happened before, but Tuffy is usually back in a couple of hours or less. He has never been gone this long, and that makes us believe that something has happened to him. We have searched all over town and have others keeping a lookout for him. A loose dog in Fort Yukon is not uncommon, but dogs are not treated the same here as in other places we've been. They are treated as something disposable.
